Snow Shoeing at Red Rocks

ExerciseSnow shoeing in Red Rocks Park is a blast. The trails open up to hills, paths, untouched snow, dense forest, views of the lake, and the occasional fox sighting.

The best part of Red Rocks is the proximity. No need to get out of the city for some peace and quiet, and the reward of nice views.

VELCO

Vermont NewsVELCO is the electric company umbrella that is proposing electrical power lines running from West Rutland to South Burlington. These power lines would be the big ones. The ones that get a lot of controversy because their electromagnetic radiation may cause cancer. Whether they actually cause cancer is heavily debated, but I once heard that if you stood under one of these lines with a light bulb in your hand, it will light up on its own, without being plugged into anything. If that’s true, I don’t see how they wouldn’t cause cancer!

YMCA Move to Waterfront

Burlington NewsI attended the public forum this week to find out more about the proposed move of the YMCA to the waterfront in the Moran building. If this is the first you’ve heard of the move, you’re not alone. Word about this project is just gathering interest as the city is moving to make decisions regarding the project.

The main reason I attended the meeting was because I really didn’t know anything about it. This is what I learned:

BooksBryan gave me this book for my birthday and I zipped through it in about a week. The author is W.P. Kinsella, known for writing Shoeless Joe, the book Field of Dreams is based on.

Like Field of Dreams, there's a lot of magic drifting around the history of baseball. Gideon, the main character, takes over his father's obsession with trying to find evidence of a 2000+ inning game between the Iowa Confederacy All Stars and the Chicago Cubs in 1908.
