We received a story submission tonight about a story written in this week's Seven Days (the story was about Burlington's downtown Kinkos no longer being open 24 hours). We decided not to run the story only because it was basically a copy and paste of the story. We realize we haven't given any formal guidelines for story submissions, so here are a few...
iBurlington.com will publish pretty much anything that is owned by the writer submitting the story and is non-obscene because we want this website to be family-friendly.
That about does it.
Since the Kinkos story appears on another website, we won't reprint it without Seven Day's consent. However, if someone wanted to comment on that story on iBurlington.com and quote a little bit from the story, that's fine as it is considered "fair use" in copyright law. We just can't reprint the whole thing.
We DO reprint certain things like emails from the state's political parties, but we have asked for and received permission to do so.
This is to let the anonymous person know why we didn't reprint the Kinkos story and to give everyone else an idea of what qualifies. Feel free to comment on this post. :)
