TODAY IS MARCH 20, 2007, ANNIVERSAY OF THE WAR PROTEST AND ARREST OF ROSEMARIE JACKOWSKI.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ROSEMARIE JACKOWSKI!
Today, Rosemarie Jackowski is 70 years old. On March 20, 2003, she was arrested in Vermont for protesting the war on Iraq. That day was her birthday and she was 66 then.
Last night I was thinking about Rosemarie, her e-mail is dissent@sover.net
I was also going through old newspaper clippings and notes my (now deceased) mother had saved.
It can be hard for people over 65 on a limited income to get out and meet other people in Vermont. The more that can be done to get senior citizens out and about and all around Vermont to meet other senior citizens, the better, because they have the life experience to generate ideas and concepts that may never occur to younger people.
My mother never had the pleasure of meeting Rosemarie Jackowski, but I think they would have enjoyed each other.
My mother died 6 months after Rosemarie Jackowski's famous Iraq war protest.
Prior to my mother's death,
here is what she wrote about war,
be patient while reading it,
she gets past chemicals,
to war in a few paragraphs:
By Susan Lee Kunce Ericson:
"My first unedited attempt starts like this:
Sonar, (fluridone) manufactured by Sepro is used in lakes, golf course ponds, etc. to kill unwanted plants growing in the water. Studies have shown that it causes hepatitis, thyroid, liver and kidney disfunction, stresses fish, shrinks testes in animals and causes a temporary loss of sexual potency in people. Chemicals can end up in ground water and public water reservoirs so you may drink it whether you want to or not.
Sonar literature warns to keep it away from potable water and irrigation ditches, yet Sonar claims that even after application, Sonar won't restrict swimming, fishing, or drinking water!
The bright side could be that if Sonar reduces the testosterone level in our
leaders they may have less enthusiasm to get us into wars. "
